The cardon' or elephant cactus is often mistaken for a saguaro cactus mainly due to the similarity in physical characteristics such as height and girth. One of the differences that distinguish the two species is that the cardon' will distribute its blooms vertically down the body or trunk whereas a saguaro blooms in clusters at the end of its arms or on the crown of the main trunk.
The Cardon' cactus has been an ongoing theme that I continue to explore through my art. I have created several variations of this cactus in this series. Each interpretation of cardon' varies in palette, canvas size composition and mood.
